Functional pig feed

Compounds conferring a health benefit to animals can aid in the goal to decrease the use of antibiotics in the feed sector. When these compounds are derived from side streams, they additionally contribute to the circularity goal. Within the PROLIFIC project, different fractions containing different types of compounds were selected for relevant bioactivity testing.

 Prototype testing of two coffee derived  fractions was performed in an in vivo piglet trial, which yielded promising results in terms of feed conversion. With positive results on animal performance, it can be concluded that both fractions are promising for use in animal feed applications.
